2011 Hyundai Equus

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Hyundai Equus
Hyundai aims to break down the barriers of owning a luxury car with the introduction of its all-new flagship, the 2011 Hyundai Equus. Equus will compete with the best luxury sedans in the world on all levels including amenities, performance, advanced technologies, design and ownership experience when it arrives at select Hyundai dealerships in the late summer of 2010.

"Equus takes Hyundais formula for intelligent luxury to a new level," said John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. "Weve applied the lessons in engineering excellence weve learned with Genesis to the Hyundai Equus, while adding a new level of customer experience that will further differentiate our take on luxury from the traditional premium brands."

Hyundai Equus broadens Hyundais lineup of premium vehicles and like Genesis, is built on Hyundais world-class rear-wheel-drive architecture. It is powered by the award-winning 4.6-liter Tau® V8. The Tau inside the Hyundai Equus will produce an estimated 385 horsepower using premium fuel and 378 horsepower using regular fuel. With technology rivaling more expensive luxury sedans, Hyundai Equus showcases features such as a lane departure warning system, electronic air suspension, smart cruise control and a Lexicon® audio system.
INTERIOR
If youre wondering whether a value-oriented brand like Hyundai can produce a luxury car, the cabin of the Equus will put your mind at ease. Just about every luxury and convenience feature found on a premium-badge car is available, and the quality of the design and materials is first class. It might not measure up to a European car like an Audi or Jaguar, but it matches anything you see from Acura, Infiniti or Lexus.

We particularly recommend the Equus Ultimate, a trim level that includes all the top-of-the-line features in a unique four-passenger configuration. The twin rear seats not only are both heated and cooled but also recline and offer a massage function. The passenger-side rear seat even has a power-operated footrest, though weve found in testing that it doesnt extend enough for passengers with long legs.

All navigation, climate, vehicle and entertainment information is displayed on a large LCD screen, while a knob and button array similar to the Audi MMI controls it. The climate controls consist of remarkably simple knobs and buttons. In a segment where vehicles can be hopelessly complex, the Equus does a good job of keeping its vast amount of technology manageable. Luggage space is a generous 16.7 cubic feet.

Driving Impressions

Silence. Thats the most notable attribute of the 2011 Hyundai Equus. At idle it can seem as quiet as a hybrid vehicle with its engine automatically shut off. Once underway, things dont get much louder, as the engine is just a whisper, wind noise is virtually non-existent and only a slight tire howl can be heard because everything else is so hushed. Despite such a sedate driving environment, though, the Equus isnt a sleepy-handling limousine. There is some float to the ride in its normal suspension mode, but hit Sport and this big sedan becomes more buttoned-down over bumps. Through corners, it wont keep up with sport sedans like the BMW 7 Series or Jaguar XJ, but the Equus is stable and predictable enough if pushed.

While the power of the Equus measures up to the competition, youll notice a little less thrust at low rpm while driving around town. This is most noticeable when accelerating from a stop, as the Equus doesnt provide the same immediate V8 punch as most other flagship luxury sedans.
EXTERIOR
The design of the Hyundai Equus is handsome and pleasing to the eye. The rear-end treatment is progressive with bold taillights, strong shoulders and an overall look of precision. This look is accomplished through fully-integrated asymmetrical exhaust tips and rear LED turn signal indicators. The side silhouette is refined, with character lines that accent the rear fenders. Up front is a subtle horizontal radiator grille and well-proportioned headlamps with jeweled detailing. LED turn signals are inside the HID headlamps along with an adaptive front lighting system with white LED position lamps. The lower air intakes are bold and add to the positive reaction of the overall design. To assist in parking, and navigating blind corners and alleys in urban driving, there is an optional forward-view cornering camera integrated into the grille.

Driving dynamics are a critical element in every luxury sedan, and the Hyundai Equus offers first-rate ride and handling characteristics without traditional compromises. Hyundai Equus electronically controlled air suspension meets the challenge of the wide variety of road surfaces drivers face everyday. For drivers who enjoy a firm ride and more stability when cornering there is a sport setting with additional body control. For customers who wish their ride to be a little on the softer side there is a normal setting for more ride compliance.

In urban areas, the Hyundai Equus is easy to maneuver and park, thanks to excellent steering and its electronic parking assist feature. While the Hyundai Equus is large, it doesnt feel over-sized or clumsy, thats due to its 37.7 foot turning circle and variable-effort steering system.

On winding country and mountain roads, Hyundai Equus benefits from the precise wheel control delivered by its five-link front and rear suspension geometry. This geometry is maximized through Continuous Damping Control (CDC) which continually monitors road and driving dynamics and adjusts damping force accordingly. The standard 19-inch chrome alloy wheel and tire package with staggered width (P245/45R19 front P275/40R19 rear) tires offers excellent gripping power and precise control.
ENGINE
Underneath its stately bodywork, the 2011 Hyundai Equus is based on the Genesis platform, but its been enlarged to provide limousine-like interior room. The Equus comes standard with the 4.6-liter V8 thats optional equipment for the Genesis sedan, and its good for 385 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque. Although this engine certainly delivers all the power you really need, it doesnt have the same low-rpm grunt as the V8s in other full-size luxury sedans. Rumor has it that Hyundai will replace the 4.6-liter V8 next year with a more potent 5.0-liter V8.
SAFETY
Maintaining Hyundais emphasis on delivering leading safety technology, Hyundai Equus boasts world-class active and passive safety features to help prevent accidents, and maximize the well-being of its occupants in the event of a collision. The Hyundai Equus continues the Hyundai tradition of offering key safety technologies, with features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), nine airbags, electronic active head restraints, lane departure warning system and smart cruise control. Hyundai Equus even has a Vehicle Stability Management system (VSM) that optimally manages ESC, the electronic parking brake, smart cruise control and the seatbelt tensioning system for optimal safety.

Hyundai Equus total of nine airbags include advanced dual front airbags, front and rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags, roof-mounted side curtain airbags for both front and rear outboard seat occupants and a drivers knee airbag.

Hyundais lane departure warning system offers a warning light and chime after a one- second lane departure, and adds a haptic warning via the seatbelt after a three second lane departure.

Smart cruise control automatically manages the Hyundai Equus speed through the braking and throttle systems to maintain a specified following distance selected by the driver.

The electronic parking brake with automatic vehicle hold enables the parking brake to hold the vehicle automatically when the vehicle stops, and deactivates as soon as the gas pedal is pressed.

Hyundai Equus has an optional camera located on the front grille and a standard camera on the rear decklid. These cameras help detect how close objects are when parking. Distance is indicated on the in-dash LCD monitor.

Hyundai Equus is brought to a halt by large four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). The 13.6-inch front rotors have four-piston fixed calipers and the rear brakes feature 12.4-inch rotors with single floating piston calipers.

2011 Honda Odyssey

he 2011 Honda Odyssey is fully redesigned with a fresh look inside and out. This fourth-generation Odyssey is wider and lower than the 2005-2010 generation and has a zigzag body-side line that sets it apart from other minivans. Improved fuel economy and attachment points for five child safety seats – the most in any vehicle -- also are part of the 2011 Odyssey redesign.

Should you buy a 2011 Honda Odyssey or wait for the 2012 Honda Odyssey? Buy a 2011 Odyssey. Fresh off its model-year 2011 redesign, the 2012 Odyssey won’t get any changes worth waiting for. And modern computer-aided design and automated manufacturing techniques have undercut the rule of thumb about waiting for the automaker to work out bugs in a first-year model. That rule hardly applied to Honda, anyway. Some popular trim levels and colors might be difficult to find during the 2011 Odyssey’s first weeks on sale. But this minivan is manufactured at Honda’s plant in Alabama, so there quickly should be a generous supply of 2011 Odysseys and that ought to keep dealers from jacking prices because demand exceeds supply.

INTERIOR

This version still adding more standard features upscale including power liftgate, sunroof, leather upholstery, power front passenger seat, heated front seats, a cold storage box, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Bluetooth, satellite radio and USB audio input . Options EX-L This list includes the choice of either a voice-operated navigation system with 15GB of digital storage and rearview camera or rear seat entertainment system with 9-inch screen and an AC power outlet 115-volt household-style, both systems can not be ordered together at EX-L.

Moving up to the Touring and Elite Touring model and you get 18-inch alloy wheels, foglights, front and rear parking sensors, memory settings for driver, glasses and third row retractable fold-down armrest for the passenger third row and second seat entertainment and navigation systems rear as standard. Touring the new Elite model adds xenon lights, blind spot warning system, an upgraded rear seat entertainment system with a monitor 16-inch widescreen HD video (with HDMI input) and a premium 650-watt, 12-speaker surround-sound audio system.

EXTERIOR

2011 Honda Odyssey is offered in five trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring and Touring Elite. Entry-level LX comes fairly well equipped with 17-inch steel wheels, keyless entry, auto lights, tilt steering wheel-and-telescoping, power driver’s seat, third row seat 60/40-split-folding, AC, full power accessories, cruise control and five-speaker sound system with CD player and additional audio jacks.

Stepping into the midrange EX and you’ll get 17-inch alloy wheels, power-sliding side doors, heated outside mirrors, tri-zone automatic climate control, removable front center console, a multifunctional second row seats, the second drawn line glasses, conversation mirror and audio systems upgrade to 2GB of digital music storage, seven speakers and steering-wheel-mounted controls.

ENGINE

If the Odyssey drives more like a minivan than a station wagon now, it certainly doesnt accelerate like one. Hondas 3.5-liter V6 makes 248 horsepower in the 2011 Odyssey, along with 250 pound-feet of torque. It revs quickly and has great throttle response, and Honda has done a masterful job of matching the gear ratios of the new, optional six-speed automatic transmission to make the Odyssey move. This is a minivan than can go quicker than it should, at least with babies onboard.

Honda has also included its Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system as standard equipment. This shuts down two or three of the V6s cylinders when theyre not needed, improving fuel economy. This and some other measures, including a 50-to-100 pound weight reduction, have helped the Odyssey boast some impressive EPA numbers for a roughly 4,400-pound vehicle. With the standard five-speed automatic, the van is rated at 18 mpg city, 21 combined and 27 on the highway. The six-speed automatic improves each of those numbers by a single mile-per-gallon, and thats tops among any vehicle that can carry eight passengers.

SAFETY

2011 Honda Odyssey comes standard with antilock disc brakes with brake assist, electronic stability and traction control, active front head restraints, side impact airbags for front seat passengers and side curtain airbags that cover all three rows. In brake testing from 60 mph, Odyssey needed 129 yards to come to a stop, which is an acceptable distance between the minivan. Even after repeated braking run, this distance is consistent with no signs of fading.

2011 Hyundai Santa Fe

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe
The 2011 edition of the Hyundai Santa Fe isnt getting a full redesign, but a visual refresh does provide a few hints of the "fluidic sculpture" design language that debuted last month on the new Tucson and Sonata. The new hood features a pair of ridges extending back from the grille to the A-pillars as well as sculpted bars in the grille similar to the Sonata. The lower front fascia also gets some new forms that evoke a similar look to the Tucson.
INTERIOR
The 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe is a five-passenger crossover SUV available in GLS, SE and Limited trim levels.

Standard equipment on the base GLS includes 17-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, roof side rails, heated mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, air-conditioning, rear seat air vents, a height-adjustable driver seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, an auxiliary audio jack, an iPod/USB audio interface and satellite radio.

The Santa Fe SE gets 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, foglights, a windshield wiper de-icer, roof rack cross rails, an eight-way power driver seat with adjustable lumbar, leather/cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Premium package adds a sunroof, a rearview camera, a touchscreen navigation system and an upgraded audio system.

The Santa Fe Limited adds a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, full leather upholstery and a 10-speaker Infinity surround-sound audio system with a six-CD changer. The rearview camera and navigation system are also available for the Limited.
ENGINE
. Making its debut was the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe. It is offered with a choice between two engines. First, theres a 2.4-liter inline-four that develops 175hp the same one offered on the Tucson and available as standard. Theres also the 3.5-liter Lambda V6 releasing 276hp and 248 lb-ft of torque offered as an option. The fuel consumption of both engines has been improved, with the 2.4-liter unit achieving 20/28 mpg while the 3.5-liter unit posts 20/26 mpg. The new Santa Fe actually only features slight upgrades when compared to the 2010 version. Styling was modified slightly but the carmaker went for more significant engine upgrades. The 2.7-liter and the 3.3-liter V6 engines have been replaced by new units, which were specifically modified for improved fuel economy and lower emissions. Safety has also been improved. The Santa Fe now comes with six standard airbags, including side air curtain airbags, as well as ABS with BA, EBD, ESC, three-point seatbelts and adjustable head restraints and Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
EXTERIOR
On the road, the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe offers predictable if not exciting handling, characterized by plenty of body roll and artificial feel to the steering. The ride quality is generally good, though models fitted with the larger 18-inch wheels tend to be a bit harsh on rough pavement. With either engine, the Santa Fe delivers good acceleration relative to other four-cylinder vehicles in its class, though the V6 is certainly the more impressive of the two, since it matches the lesser engines fuel mileage as well.
SAFETY
Every 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe comes standard with four-wheel antilock disc brakes, brake assist, traction and stability control, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. A rearview camera is optional. In Edmunds brake testing, a Santa Fe Limited came to a stop from 60 mph in 126 feet -- a perfectly average distance.

The Santa Fe has not been rated using the governments new, more strenuous 2011 crash testing procedures. Its 2010 ratings (which arent comparable to 2011 tests) were a perfect five stars in all frontal and side crash categories. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Santa Fe its highest rating of "Good" in the frontal-offset and side crash categories.
Interior Design and Special Features

The Santa Fe doesnt enjoy the organic modernistic curves of the cabin in Hyundais newer Tucson, but it nevertheless offers a relatively elegant environment compared to the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Quality of materials and their fitment are pretty much par for the course, with plenty of hard plastics thankfully broken up by soft touch points. The Santa Fe benefits from extremely simple controls, even with the available navigation system.

Some buyers may find it hard to get comfortable behind the wheel because of the overly high seating position and short bottom cushions that offer taller drivers minimal thigh support. The second row offers an above-average level of comfort, but doesnt slide like many of its competitors seats do.

2011 Volkswagen Touareg 2

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Volkswagen Touareg 2
The second generation of Volkswagen’s full sized SUV, the VW Touareg has made its first appearance on the internet, before we actually see the new car in flesh this March at the Geneva Motor Show. Aside from the revised exterior styling, the new Touareg will be the first and only off road capable vehicle in Europe built by a German car maker to be offered as a hybrid when it goes on sale this April.
INTERIOR
The Touaregs interior features are high on quantity and quality. While reviewers used to find the button-heavy dashboard confusing, the controls and systems inside the redesigned 2011 model are more intuitive. All models come with a seven-inch widescreen display between the main gauges.
Volkswagen has not released specs on the new Touareg, but all trims are expected to come with a navigation system – a rare standard feature even in a luxury SUV. Reviewers really like the system because it displays maps and directions in a three-dimensional view. The navigation system also comes with a 60-Gigabyte hard drive and satellite radio.
 EXTERIOR
The new Touareg is a much more elegant SUV thanks to the addition Volkswagen’s new "design DNA" that includes touches like a leaner more athletic body featuring more horizontal lines on the front end as well as distinctive headlights that give the new Touareg an unmistakable appearance at night; and will be offered with a choice of FSI V6, TDI V6 and V8 as well as a hybrid version that replaces the old gas burning V8 mill for most markets. The hybrid versions combines a high voltage electric motor with a direct injected gas burning supercharged TSI V6 cranking out 333 HP, like in the S4, and an 8 speed automatic transmission that gets nearly 29 MPG and is able to operate under battery power alone as a Zero Emissions Vehicle up to 31 MPH.
ENGINE
The new Touareg Hybrid comes with a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine paired with an electric motor. The powerplant makes a combined total of 375 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. The Touareg’s other two engines are carryovers from 2010. The base 3.6-liter V6 makes 280 horsepower, while the 3.0-liter six-cylinder common-rail diesel makes 225 horsepower. All three engines are mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
Test drivers say all three engines have plenty of power, but they are most excited about the new hybrid powetrain. They say that the transition from gasoline to electric power is barely detectable. The hybrid even has the ability to “coast” after the engine shuts down. That means that all systems, such as power steering, continue working even when you’re using solely electric power.
The EPA estimates that the 2011 Touareg with the 3,6-liter engine and six-speed automatic transmission will get 16 miles per gallon in the city and 23 on the highwway.  Thats about average for the class.  Volkswagen estimates the hybrid will achieve 21 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway, which is one of the highest ratings in its class. The diesel engine gets 19 miles per gallon in the city and 28 on the highway.
In the Touareg’s class, you can easily find SUVs with better fuel economy than the base model. The Lexus RX 350 starts at about $4,000 less than the Touareg and has a much better 18/25 mpg fuel economy rating (incidentally, that rating matches the diesel Touareg’s rating, but the RX 350 costs $7,000 less than the Touareg TDI). You can even get better fuel economy than the Touareg Hybrid by opting for the Lexus RX Hybrid. It has a 32/28 fuel economy rating and starts at $8,000 less than the Touareg.
 SAFETY
The federal government has not yet crash tested the 2011 Touareg. However, the 2011 Touareg does very well in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests, earning "Top Safety Pick" status.
The Touareg came standard with anti-lock brakes, Anti-Slip Regulation, Engine Brake Assist, Electronic Brake Pressure Distribution, driver and front passenger airbags, driver and front passenger side airbags, and front and rear side-curtain head airbags. A rearview camera is also standard, as is a rollover sensor.
Optional safety systems for the 2011 model  include a lane departure warning and blind spot detection system.reference:usnews.rankingsandreviews.com,www.topspeed.com

2011 Mercedes Benz M Class

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
Mercedes-Benz’s now-legendary M-Class SUV has been revised for again the latest generation. While the refresh doesnt completely alter the look of the vehicle, it does include a redesigned bumper, re-contoured headlamps and a larger radiator, as well as minor changes to content lists.

Since the Tuscaloosa, Alabama-built M-Class’ introduction in late 1997 for the 1998 model year, families across the globe have flocked to the three-row sports-utility vehicle. The latest generation of the M brought a new top-end V8 model, the ML550, and considerably more aggressive style.

The visual changes with the latest update include restyled front and rear fascias, grille, headlights and smoked taillights. The interior receives upgraded materials along with a two-tone color scheme and new four-spoke steering wheel with integrated shift paddles. New standard and optional equipment has also been added.

INTERIOR
The 2011 Mercedes M-Class features one of the finest cabins in its class, with a pleasing design and top-notch materials. Its electronics interface can be a bit frustrating, however. While the menu structure and software are the same, the M-Class doesnt feature the multifunction control knob that more recently introduced Mercedes models do.

Passenger room is impressive, offering more rear legroom than most of its competitors. Theres no third row offered, though. With the rear seats in place, there is a total of 29 cubic feet of luggage space. When the seats are folded flat, this expands to 72 cubes -- an average figure for this class of vehicle.

Newly optional are: a 12-speaker, 610W Harman Kardon Logic7 sound system and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 8-inch screens, a DVD player, two wireless headphones, and two remote controls. MB’s Linguatronic voice-operated control system is another high-tech option.

The M-Class accommodates up to five occupants. The powered front seats include a driver-side four-way power lumbar adjustment. A 60/40-split rear seat creates a level load surface when folded.

    *Standard "mbrace" telematics system
    *Optional leather-seating package
*Optional front and rear heated seats
    *Optional heated steering wheel
    *Optional Harman Kardon audio
*Optional backseat entertainment system with two screens
EXTERIOR
Stand-alone options include 20-inch wheels, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot assist, a trailer hitch, running boards, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, heated rear seats and a rear-seat entertainment system.

The ML63 AMG adds to the ML550 an air suspension and adaptive damping system, 20-inch AMG wheels, high-performance tires, upgraded brakes, AMG styling elements, the Premium 2 package, the Lighting package, front and rear parking sensors, extended leather trim, heated and ventilated sport seats and a sport steering wheel with shift paddles.

Almost all the exterior changes in the most recent redesign made the M-Class look lower and broader. The grille was lower and the fog lights were farther apart, for example. The stainless-steel skid plates — front and rear — pulled the eye downward. One exception was the side mirrors, whose signal lights grew and spread, threatening to overtake the entire mirror enclosure.

    *Standard roof rails, optional crossbars
    *Dual exhaust outlets
*Standard 19-inch wheels; 20- and 21-inch rims optional
*Optional front and rear parking sensors
ENGINE
The ML350 is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (4Matic) and is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission is standard. Mercedes estimates it will go from zero to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds. Fuel economy is estimated to be 16 mpg city/21 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive and 15/20/17 in 4Matic guise.

The ML350 Bluetec has a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 that utilizes 50-state-legal clean-diesel technology. It produces 210 hp and a prodigious 400 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed automatic and 4Matic are standard. In Edmunds performance testing, we recorded a 0-60 time of 8.5 seconds. Its estimated fuel economy is 18/25/21.

The ML450 Hybrid features a 3.5-liter V6, a pair of electric motors and an advanced transmission that has both fixed and continuously variable ratios. The transmission shares its general design with GMs two-mode hybrid systems, though in this case there are eight forward speeds versus GMs four. Total combined output is rated at 335 hp and 381 lb-ft of torque. The estimated 0-60 time is 7.8 seconds and estimated fuel economy is 20/24/22 mpg.

The ML550 gets AWD and a seven-speed automatic standard. Its 5.5-liter V8 produces 382 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, which is enough for an estimated 0-60 time of 5.6 seconds. Its EPA-estimated fuel economy is 13/18/15.

The ML63 AMG packs a 6.2-liter V8 good for 503 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Its connected to all four wheels via an AMG-tuned seven-speed automatic with manual override shift paddles. In Edmunds performance testing, its 0-60 time was a staggering 4.7 seconds. EPA-estimated fuel economy is, not surprisingly, the lowest of the bunch at 11/15/12 mpg.
SAFETY
Standard safety features include:

    Four-wheel-disc antilock brakes
    Electronic stability system
    Side-impact airbag
    Side curtain airbags
    Active front head restraints
Pre-Safe, which can cinch the front seat belts and close the windows in case of a crash

ML450 Hybrid
The technology in the new ML450 Hybrid allows the SUV to move on electric power alone at low speeds, one reason it gets 21/24 mpg city/highway.

The ML450 Hybrid features a 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 275 hp and is supplemented by two electric motors that are part of the eight-speed, continuously variable automatic transmission. Total output is 335 hp. One electric motor is designed for acceleration from a standing stop while the other one is meant for on-the-move acceleration. When more power is needed, the gas engine starts automatically.

This M-Class has a number of familiar hybrid characteristics. The engine sometimes turns off when the car comes to a stop and starts again when the vehicle begins to move. The ML450 Hybrid also features regenerative braking, capturing energy that would otherwise be lost as heat and instead using it to replenish the hybrid systems high-voltage battery pack.

The ML450 Hybrid is distinguished from its siblings by some exterior styling cues, including its liftgate badge, a different hood and special 19-inch wheels. Inside, occupants can monitor the hybrid systems operation and fuel economy with the optional Comand screen on the dash.

2011 Suzuki Equator

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Suzuki Equator
Like most everything else in the U.S., pickup trucks have been supersized over the last couple of decades. Perhaps with the latest trend of downsizing, midsize trucks may regain some footing. Choices are few in this category, but among this select group, the 2011 Suzuki Equator ranks very highly.

Although the Equator has its own traditional style, its essentially identical to the Nissan Frontier under the sheet metal. The Equator and Frontier interior treatments are fundamentally similar as well, with just a few badge changes for the Suzuki. Under the hood, youll even find some traces of Nissan labeling.

As a result, you get all the advantages and disadvantages that come with the Nissan Frontier. The Equator shares the strength of an optional V6 engine, relatively nimble handling, a manageable size, sturdy construction and respectable off-road performance. Likewise, both trucks suffer from the same cramped quarters in the rear of the crew cab. The Equator also isnt available in the simple standard cab from the Frontier lineup, although this is simply because it has relatively little market appeal.

Suzuki offers a seven-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, while the Nissan stops at five years and 60,000 miles. The drawback here is that warranty work must be performed at Suzuki dealerships, which are outnumbered considerably by Nissan dealers. If a Suzuki dealer is conveniently close to you, however, the 2011 Suzuki Equator should be an enticing midsize pickup.
INTERIOR
Inside the Suzuki Equator, the feeling is of practicality. There is no faux wood trim or European-luxury inspired arrays of controls. No attempt is made to load the cockpit with the stylistic features of a high-end SUV, but it is practically designed and well organized. Leather is not an option; instead, a rubberized, water-resistant material is the premium fabric option, designed to be easy to wash. A low-gloss textured plastic is used throughout, with bright-coated plastic accents on the center stack shifter panel and steering wheel. It may be all plastic, but our charcoal interior looked nice, and it would clean up well time after time.

Only those opting for four-wheel drive will get all of the Equators interior frills. The RMZ-4 package includes chrome trim on the instrument panel, more adjustments in the drivers seat and upgraded seat material. The Sport 4x4 and RMZ-4 get a premium eight-speaker Rockford Fosgate stereo system with subwoofer. All trucks come with bucket seats and a center console. The base audio system, which is standard in two-wheel-drive Equators, doesnt include an auxiliary jack to accommodate MP3 players. Interior features include:

    Available hands-free Bluetooth connectivity
    Optional Rockford Fosgate audio system
Sport, RMZ-4 packages have only one 12-volt outlet, others have two
RMZ-4 gets illuminated ignition key cylinder
EXTERIOR
The Equator has been equipped with a unique front clip, meaning that it has its own hood, grille, front fenders, and front fascia to distinguish it from the 2009 Nissan Frontier that it is based upon. The honeycomb mesh Suzuki grille is the most visible part of the Equators identity, as it contains a large Suzuki emblem. Fenders are visibly flared upward and doors, shared with the Frontier, are wide and flat. The side view is designed with a low belt line that makes the Equator seem taller, and bigger.

Mirrors on most models are black, and not overly large, so they seem to disappear into the truck. The rear windows have darkened privacy glass, as does the back cabin window.

The tailgate is another unique Suzuki piece. Use of chrome is limited to the rear bumper, and on the RMZ package, mirror and door handles.

Sport and RMZ-4 packages are also distinguishable by wheel size. The Sport package, intended more for street use, has 17-inch wheels and 65-series tires. The RMZ-4 Equators have 16-inch wheels, and higher-profile P265/75 BFG Rugged Trail tires.

The hood, front fenders, grille, bumpers and tailgate are exclusive to Suzuki. The bed comes with a factory spray-on bedliner and an adjustable tie-down system. The prominent Suzuki badge on the honeycomb three-bar grille distinguishes the Equator. Exterior features include:

    Chrome door handles on RMZ-4
Tow hitch optional on all trims
    16-inch alloy wheels on RMZ-4
Available 17-inch alloy wheels on other V-6 models
ENGINE
Engine and transmission configurations include:

*152-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder, aluminum block/cylinder head, DOHC, four valves per cylinder with 171 pounds-feet of peak torque
*261-hp, 4.0-liter V-6, aluminum block/cylinder head, DOHC, four valves per cylinder with 281 pounds-feet of peak torque
*Five-speed manual available only in base extended cab 4x2 with inline-four engine
*Five-speed automatic standard in all other inline-four and all V-6 models
*Electronically controlled part-time four-wheel-drive transfer case

SAFETY
Antilock disc brakes, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags are standard on all trims. Traction and stability control are standard on Sport and V6 models. Hill-hold and descent control is standard on the four-cylinder Sport and V6-powered long bed and RMZ-4 models.

The 2011 Equator has not been rated using the governments new, more strenuous 2011 crash testing procedures. Its 2010 ratings (which arent comparable to 2011 tests) resulted in four stars (out of five) in frontal tests for both driver and passenger and five stars for side impact protection. The extended cab garnered four stars for driver protection in frontal impacts and five stars for frontal-impact passenger protection and driver protection in side impacts. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded its highest score of "Good" for frontal-offset testing.

a crew cab Equator Sport model came to a stop from 60 mph in 122 feet. Its an admirably short distance, but the soft pedal was far from confidence-inspiring, and sometimes it went all the way to the floor under heavy pressure.

2011 Dodge Challenger

Styling: The 2011 Dodge Challenger’s styling isn’t altered, staying true to the model-year 2008 revival of this MoPar muscle car. The long-hood, short-deck shape, wide grille flanked by round headlamps, graceful roofline, and full-width tail lamps continue to honor the 1970 Challenger two-door coupe.

The 2011 Dodge Challenger’s interior is updated, but not as extensively or as elegantly as that of several other 2011 Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep models. Revisions to the 2011 Challenger’s cabin are highlighted by a new steering wheel with more ergonomically integrated controls for the audio and cruise control systems and other functions. The dashboard instrumentation gets new faces, and assorted trim is regrained or softer to the touch.
he base model 2011 Dodge Challenger SE will come with Chrysler’s new high-feature 3.6-liter V6 engine, packing 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque (compared to 290 horsepower under the hood of the Jeep Grand Cherokee using the same engine). The Challenger’s current five-speed automatic will remain, fuel economy will be rated at 19 city, 26 highway miles per gallon.

We’ve known that the Challenger SRT8 model would swap out its 6.1-liter V8 for a new 6.4-liter unit for the 2011 model year, but until now we could only speculate in regards to power figures. Although not as high as many rumors indicating it could produce as much as 500 horsepower, the 6.4-liter HEMI will be rated at 475 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
Along with the new engine, the SRT engineers have given the Challenger’s chassis some help with new dampers accompanied by revised suspension geometry. The steering is now quicker, too, and uses a heavy-duty hydraulic pump that’s said to offer more feel, particularly on-center, something the car needed. We’re hopeful, too, that the changes impart an extra dash of nimbleness to what is a heavy car—it weighs more than two tons.

Exterior differentiation starts with prominent “392 HEMI” badges on the front fenders. The front fascia has been revised, including a larger chin spoiler that creeps up along the wheel wells in order to route airflow around the rolling stock.

The 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT 392 comes with xenon headlamps, functional hood scoops, leather upholstery, special sport bucket front seats, and dashboard readouts that track 0-60-mph acceleration times, lateral G-forces, and other lead-foot data. Dodge also is offering the 2011 SRT8 392 Inaugural Edition, a special model whose production is limited to 1,492 cars.  The Inaugural Edition rides on exclusive 20-inch wheels and tires and gives buyers a choice of a white exterior with blue stripes running the length of the car or a blue exterior with white stripes. The seats are finished in white leather with blue stripes and stitching.
